My Beauty Product Wish List

Hey there, lovely readers!

I know that this is primarily a modest fashion blog, but one of my favorite things, other than clothes of course, is beauty products! I love to stay on top of the current beauty trends, and learn all about the latest products. Today, I wanted to put out a really fun post about the beauty products that I'm currently crushing on - these are all products that I have either sampled or have trial sizes of, and even some that I've heard rave reviews about, but haven't gotten to try yet.

1) Bite Agave Lip Mask - I was able to sample the Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask in the original clear color as well as the Smashed and Champagne colors through the "Brands We Love" sample bag that Sephora is currently offering through April 1st. You can get this amazing sample bag with $25 purchase when you use the code "Follow" at checkout. I had heard about this product through several beauty bloggers and YouTubers, but had never tried it for myself. I have to say, I am sold! This is a great lip product that keeps your lips soft and hydrated for hours! I like to put a thick layer on at night right before I go to bed, and put a little bit on in the mornings when I'm doing my makeup. I can't decide which shade I'll get, but once I run out of my samples, I will definitely be purchasing this product in a full size! You can find the Bite Agave Lip Mask here

2) Touch in Sol Feel Like Honey Moon Skin Base - This is another product that I was able to sample through the Sephora "Brands We Love" bag. I have to admit, I was a little skeptical about this product, since I had never tried any K Beauty products, and the name is a little strange. When you first put this primer on, it feels a little stick - like honey. But, once you spread it over your face, it dries into this lovely, glowy base layer on your skin that makes your makeup look 1000x better. I will most definitely be getting the full size container of this product - you can find it here

3) Living Proof Hair Products - I have been using the Redken All Soft shampoo and conditioner for quite some time, but recently my hair has been super tangled and frizzy, so I wanted to try something different. I had heard about Living Proof brand through several beauty bloggers as well as some friends, so I thought I would give it a try. Now I'm not going to sugar coat it - these products are not cheap. So, I'm currently using one of their sample kits (the Perfect Hair Day line, pictured above). Once I finish this shampoo and conditioner, I will try out the sample kits in all of the different lines that they offer until I find the one that I like best. So far, I am really loving how my hair looks and feels with these products! You can find them here

4) The Balm Mary Lou Manizer - I first heard about this product, ironically, through one of the Disney bloggers that I follow. Since then, I have heard its' name dropped by several other beauty bloggers and YouTubers. I have been looking for a long time for a highlighter that I really like. I mean, I probably have half a dozen barely-used highlighters sitting in my makeup stash that I just didn't love. I've heard great things about this product, so I'm hoping it works for me! You can find this product here

5) Lipstick Queen Frog Prince Lipstick - This is a green lipstick that reacts with your body temperature to give you the perfect shade of pink lips. I think this is such a neat product because no two people will get the exact same shade. You can purchase this lipstick here

Here are some of my favorite outfits from the past few weeks:

That's all for now, I hope you all have a wonderful and blessed weekend!

My Ore-Ida Totchos Recipe

Hey there, lovely readers! I recently posted about receiving my first Influenster VoxBox. One of the awesome things I received in my VoxBox was a coupon for a free bag of Ore-Ida tater tots. I love tater tots just like any other red-blooded American, so I was pretty excited to have the opportunity to get some for free! The even better part is, Ore-Ida is inviting people to create their own personal Totchos recipe with the chance to be featured on their website. What are Totchos, you ask? Well, they're like Nachos, but with tater tots instead of chips! For my recipe, I took inspiration from my favorite types of nachos - simple, hearty, spicy nachos like you'd get at the ball field or the drive-thru. No funky flavor combinations, no special ingredients - just classic nachos. Without further ado, here is my recipe!

- 1 bag of Ore-Ida Tater Tots
- 1 lb ground beef (turkey or chicken would also work)
- 1 packet taco seasoning
- 16-oz pkg Velveeta Cheese
- 1 can Rotel
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- optional: jarred jalapeno slices, diced fresh tomato, fresh cilantro, sliced black olives, or whatever your favorite nacho toppings are

1) Bake Tater Tots according to package directions

 2) While tots are baking, brown meat in a nonstick skillet.

3) Drain excess grease from meat, and season with one packet of taco seasoning and a packet-full of water.

4) Next, you'll need to make your queso. Cut the Velveeta into 1/2-inch cubes, and place into a microwave-safe bowl sprayed with cooking spray.

 5) Add your can of Rotel (don't drain!), and stir together with the cheese. Microwave on High until the cheese is melted and smooth, stirring every 1 minute or so.

 6) When tots are done baking, place them in a 9x13 baking dish sprayed with cooking spray (I was cooking for two, so I did not make a full size pan)

7) At this time, reduce oven heat to 350.

8) Next, add half of your queso and spread evenly over tots.

9) Add your seasoned meat, and spread evenly.

10) Add the remaining queso, and spread evenly over the top.

11) Bake for 10-15 minutes, uncovered.

12) Remove from oven and top with sour cream and desired toppings. Serve hot and enjoy!

*Tip - if you're like me and you're only cooking for one or two, you can easily bake just as many tater tots as you think you'll need, and prep the full size of the rest of the ingredients. Only use as much of the meat, cheese, and toppings as you need, and refrigerate the rest. Then, the next time you're ready to make more Totchos, just re-heat your meat and cheese and bake some more tater tots to assemble a mini-version of this recipe!

I hope you enjoy this dish as much as we did!

My Influenster Jingle VoxBox: Part 1

Hello there, lovely readers!

Today, I'm going to talk about my first ever Influenster VoxBox! I will break this up into two posts, so that it's not super long. If you are unfamiliar with Influenster, they are a company that collaborates with brands to send complimentary samples in exchange for your review of their products. These products can be anything from snacks, to beauty products, to children's products. A VoxBox is when they send you a box of products to try out and review. Once you receive your box, you review each of the products on your social media platform(s). It is a win-win situation, because it allows you to test new products for free, but it also helps the brands out, because you review them on social media, and it is essentially marketing for them. Influenster is a great tool for bloggers, or people that have a high impact on social media, whether that be Instagram, Twitter, or YouTube. My very first VoxBox was called the Jingle VoxBox, and it was sent out right around Christmas - I received it on December 29th. Let's get down to the fun of it, and take a look at what was inside my box! I will review a few of the products in this post, and the rest in a later post next week.

This is what the box looked like when it came in the mail. Imagine my excitement when I opened up the outer box to find this adorable packaging! I didn't know that I was receiving a VoxBox, so it really was a pleasant surprise! The picture at the top of the page is what it looked like when I opened the box.

1) Hallmark itty bittys, Rapunzel - I was immediately drawn to this little cutie as soon as I opened the box - I'm pretty sure I may have jumped up and down a little bit when I saw it. As I've shared before on the blog, I am a HUGE Disney fan, so this was so perfect for me. I had seen the itty bittys at Hallmark on several occasions, and I always thought that they were so cute. Rapunzel is one of my favorite Disney Princesses, so I was really pleased that she's the one that I got.

I decided to put my itty bitty Rapunzel on my desk at work. It really brightens up my desk and brings a smile to my face anytime I look over and see it. I would absolutely recommend this product to anyone who is a Disney lover. This would be a great small gift for a co-worker or even a child. Hallmark makes itty bittys in a bunch of different characters, so these would be something really fun to collect.

2) Biscoff Cookies - I have to admit, I was really excited when I saw that I got some of these Biscoff cookies in my VoxBox. These are the same cookies that you can get when you fly on Delta Airlines. They are also the type of cookie (not the same brand though, I presume) that is used in Trader Joe's delicious Cookie Butter. Biscoff also makes their own spread that is just like TJ's Cookie Butter. I absolutely love Biscoff cookies - they taste like a graham cracker and a gingersnap had a delicious baby. These are great dipped in coffee of hot chocolate, crushed and served on top of ice cream, or by themselves! I would definitely recommend these as a treat to anyone who has a sweet tooth and wants something a little more grown up than Oreos or Chips Ahoy.

3) Pure Ice Nail Polish in "Home Run" - I have to admit, I was a little apprehensive when I saw this nail polish in my VoxBox. I am a little bit of a nail polish snob, so I wasn't sure what to expect of this brand that I had never used before.

I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised with the results when I tried this polish. This picture is after two coats of polish. This is a lovely tiffany blue shade, which is one of my favorite colors. The polish has a really nice glossy finish, and it lasted several days without chipping.

This shade also matched the Kendra Scott bracelet and earrings that my husband gave me for Christmas, so I was really excited about that too! I would definitely recommend this brand of polish to anyone who wants a long-lasting nail polish with a "wet" looking finish. You can find Pure Ice nail polish at Wal-Mart - I know I'll be purchasing more!

4) NYC CityProof 24-Hour Eyeliner - This is a pencil-style eyeliner that goes on smoothly and is easy to blend and work with. I'll admit, I don't wear eyeliner every day, mostly because my daily makeup routine has to happen in 10 minutes or less. I wasn't sure what to expect of this eyeliner, because I had never used any of NYC's cosmetics line other than some lip glosses that I used to wear in high school.

This eyeliner goes on well, but unfortunately it is almost too smooth. I had issues with the eyeliner coming off easily, and smudging outside of my eyelid. The picture above was taken just a couple hours after I applied my makeup, and you can hardly tell that I'm wearing any eyeliner. I want to really like this eyeliner, but I think I'll stick with the brand I currently use.

Well, that's all for now - I will review the rest of the products I received in a blog post next week! I hope you all enjoy hearing about my experience with Influenster - if you are interested in signing up for the chance to receive a VoxBox, you can do so here

My Blog Goals for 2016

Hello there lovely readers,

It's been a minute since I've written a blog post! It always seems like too long between blog posts, and that's one of the things I want to talk about in this particular post! While I don't like to make New Years Resolutions (because that's almost always setting yourself up for failure), I do like to have some goals in mind that I would like to accomplish every year. I have some personal goals, but today I wanted to share some of my blogging goals for this year. As many of you know, I write two blogs - this one, and The Disney Heart. I think it's really important just in everyday life to set goals for yourself, so that you don't find yourself just existing without anything driving you to accomplish something, if that makes sense. I think the same is true for blogging - if I don't have something in mind that I want to blog about, or if I don't have a benchmark that I want to hit with my blogging, it's all too easy to let it slip to the back burner of my life. So without further rambling, here are some of my blogging goals for 2016:

1) Publish a blog post at least once a week  - whether it's a Fab Friday Finds, a new recipe, some outfit inspiration, or something else, I want to publish something on the blog at least once per week.

2) Write more meaningful posts - It is all too easy to just crank out a blog post that lacks real meaning - fluff is easy to write. While fluff is fun sometimes, I also want my blog to have meaning, and I want my posts to reach people and be memorable.

3) Take Better Pictures for the blog - Pretty much all of my outfit photos are taken on my iPhone. That's partially because I don't have a really good camera, and partially because I take a lot of my outfit photos in the mirror after my husband leaves for the day and I'm getting ready for work. I would like to post some more quality photos, maybe not on necessarily Instagram (follow me @themodestheartblog!), but definitely on here.

4) Do more brand collaborations - I did collaborations with Kosher Casual and Adina's Designs in 2015 - I loved doing them, and I would love to do more!

5) Establish meaningful relationships with other bloggers - One of my favorite things about the blogging world is getting to "meet" other bloggers that share similar interests and mindsets. Many of the modest fashion bloggers that I've come into contact with are some of the sweetest, most genuine girls I know!

I hope that I can look back on this list over the course of the year and say that I have accomplished and am continuing to accomplish all of these goals. Here's to a better blog in 2016!

Here are some of my recent outfits - as always, follow me on Instagram at @themodestheartblog for more outfits!

My Favorite Daily Devotionals

Hey there lovely readers,

I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas! With 2015 drawing to a close and 2016 beginning just around the corner, I wanted to take the opportunity to share some of my favorite daily devotionals with my readers. One of the more common New Years' resolutions/goals that I hear about among fellow believers is to do a daily devotional every day in the new year. I think that is a very noble and respectable goal, and I try to do the same myself every year. While I'm as guilty as anyone else of getting caught up in the day-to-day hustle and bustle and forgetting to spend time with the Lord, having a daily devotional to look forward to every morning really helps me to remember to get into God's Word. I wanted to share some of my personal favorite devotionals - these are all devotionals that I have personal experience reading. Some of these will even help you accomplish the goal of reading through the entire Bible in a year! Without further ado, here are some of my personal favorites:

1) Daily Moments in His Presence - I was given this devotional journal as a gift a few years back when I was in college, and I absolutely loved it. One of my favorite aspects of this devotional is that each day includes a space to journal your thoughts on that day's devotional. It was neat to look back on past months and days and see what I was thinking and feeling at the time.

2) My Utmost for His Highest  - This is an older (and I mean really old) devotional that Christians around the world have been reading for generations. "My Utmost for His Highest" is probably the most solid daily devotional I have found - it is good quality content without much filler. With that said, many people find this one to be a little difficult to read, since the language is outdated and  there's less "fluff" to make it relatable to the 21st century. If you are looking for something to challenge you, this is it.

3) She Reads Truth - This is a daily devotional for women that comes in the form of an app for your phone/tablet. There is a 365-day devotional that allows you to read through the Bible in a year, or there are different shorter studies to choose from, such as Psalms, Hymns, and seasonal studies including Lent and Advent. I like the format of She Reads Truth - each day includes several scripture passages, as well as a thought-provoking devotional written by one of several authors. I also like that this one is geared specifically for women, so many of the authors address issues that only women face. They also encourage scripture memorization, which is so important to the Christian life!

If you are looking for a new daily devotional for 2016, I hope that this list has given you some encouragement and inspiration! Happy reading!
